Oh you who have daring deeds to tell!
And you who have felt Ambition's spell!
(Robert W. Service)
„Are you an idealist?“, a charming professional contact asks me. The first thought that comes to mind is “assessment centre“. I pause and hear myself say, "Yes, I think so, to some extent. Idealism to me is an aspiration and it's linked to compassion.“ The next day I google. “The ultimate goal of the Idealist is to have integrity, which is found in honesty, purpose, and vulnerable realness”, according to David Keirsey. […] “Idealists want to discover what lies beneath the surface and have a strong desire to contribute something meaningful to the world.” Indeed, this resonates with me.
“Does your work have a real impact?”, my contact asks. "When I work with (motivated) people and see what is possible, what they are capable of when given a voice and a chance, I know my work is effective." I think it takes idealists to take things to the next step; however, this idealism needs to be linked to or paired with targeted realism. My goal is to combine the two but I cannot force anyone, I cannot force decision-makers, to implement the recommended action steps.
Our Poetry & Qigong retreat, which takes place from 4-6 October, aims to provide a hyper-space for reflecting, sharing, and embodying ideas across cultures, disciplines, and age groups. This year, we expect participants aged 35-70, from 4 different nations and of diverse professional backgrounds, I am curious and look forward to our learning journey and to how we will combine idealistic and realistic worldviews.
